I received this little book in the mail from a friend of the conservative political persuasion. She said I’d find it “interesting.” Boy, did I. Anyone wishing to understand the underlying political and economic principles contending today for world acceptance can do so in the span of ninety three pages in One Mistake, One Hundred Million Deaths. For me, the book’s primary value lies in its bringing down to earth for the everyday reader the two schools of erudite argumentation – collectivist and free market -- that today control the thinking of our intellectual, media and political influencers and thus shape to a significant extent all our lives.

This book is of particular interest to me. Having grown up in England I know something of the issues author Rogers discusses. I learned firsthand the doubtful benefits of the welfare state. What I didn’t know was the background of the system. Sharing as I do now the blessings of American free enterprise I cannot adequately express the pleasure it gave me to finally understand, through this book, the ongoing struggle between freedom and tyranny. I’ve recommended it to friends no matter their political party. I recommend it to any reader of this review.

A must read for everyone.
Wow! This book is well written. What a delight to receive such a clear explanation of “Who can save America”. This author has a mountain of knowledge that is completely laid out in this book.
-Susan Adkins
This is an amazing book. An enormous amount of research went into this work and to be able to condense it into such a short, cogent, understandable book is remarkable. Everyone should read it!
-George Ducworth, Coordinator of Recruitment & Career Development, Anderson University
“This book is not just for those who cherish freedom and liberty, its ideal for those who want to understand the historical roots of the words freedom and liberty that are part of today’s political lexicon. Don Rogers has written this extremely well-conceived book using a simple, organized writing style that makes it hard to stop reading.”
-Richard Eckstrom, South Carolina Controller General
J. Don Rogers does an excellent job explaining the relationship of freedom to economic growth and prosperity. This book should be read by every politician, but the book reminds us that it should also be read by every common man because the common man is the real source of hope for this country.
A compelling read that is written in plain English; the author helps the reader understand what is important, and why it is important. The pages turned themselves because I couldn’t wait to read the next page.
-Samuel Harms, attorney
Overall, I like it. It is a succinct and clear presentation of the economics of collectivism versus freedom.
I have one major recommendation if you do another edition or for your next book: The economics of freedom are definitely important, but the battle for capitalism is overwhelmingly moral, not economic. You need a chapter or another book on Ayn Rand and “Atlas Shrugged.". You certainly should include her at the top of your recommended reading.
There are two irrefutable points: 1. the battle for individual rights is overwhelmingly moral 2. Nobody but Ayn Rand provides the moral case for capitalism, and the underlying philosophy that supports it. If her atheism grates on your religious views, I recommend that you bite the bullet. Nobody makes the moral case that she does.
-Dr. Andrew Bernstein, Philosopher, novelist
If I had children of impressionable college age, I’d pass this book along with a wish that its message should guide their lives.
This book is filled with multiple insights that never occurred to me. I feel empowered to confront my uninformed friends.
My longtime friend, Don Rogers, asked me to review his book, One Mistake, One Hundred Million Deaths. It took me longer than I intended because I found myself wanting to savor every morsel, every word. Don has created a masterpiece that will become a compendium for students of freedom. He not only extols the indispensable tenets of limited government and a free market for those who love liberty, but he uncompromisingly tells the truth.
-Rob Chumley, business owner, lobbyist, former magistrate judge
A quick and fascinating read that may completely change your world view. Great information clearly presented, that makes a strong case for why this country works, and the value of the free market to a society.
-Susan Buser, business owner
Ever wonder why life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are unalienable rights? J. Don Rogers provides an excellent explanation in this remarkable book. He also pinpoints the proper role of government regarding these rights.
Don't miss it!
-Bill Mcshea, retired engineer
The evidence is overwhelming for free enterprise.
Very well written and detailed. The comparison of free enterprise to all other economies is well documented and historically proven. A must read if you believe in freedom and personal responsibility.
-Jon R.
Central themes clearly make the case for free market.
While the author takes his time making his main point, this little booklet clearly lays out the case for a free market in lieu of central government planning. Perhaps the remedy for our economic quagmire is for officials to get out of the way and let markets work--I'm convinced!
